LEAD ORGANIZER

  • Member Recruitment & Retention.  Implemented targeted outreach strategies, including member training and organizing, member engagement and information campaigns, leading to a 400% increase in new member recruitment (SY 2021-2022 to SY 2022-2023) and sustained recruitment increases. 

  • Grant Procurement & Management. Researched and developed annual grant proposals to secure funding for organizing staff salaries, along with creating a system to ensure grant reporting and compliance requirements.

  • Training & Leadership Development. Created a comprehensive training manual for union leaders, conducted training workshops for union members and organizers on effective organizing tactics, engagement, and leadership development, enhancing team performance and cohesion.

  • Communication & Media Relations. Developed and managed communication strategies, including website design and maintenance, press releases, social media campaigns, and newsletters, to promote union initiatives and inform members.

  • Staff Management. Led the team of organizing staff members by generating a strategic plan of measurable long-term and short-term goals that align with grant requirements, and facilitating weekly team meetings to ensure that staff tasks align with the defined goals.

  • Volunteer Management & Relationship Building. Established and maintained strong relationships with union members, local communities, and partner organizations to advance collective goals and foster solidarity.

  • Conflict Resolution. Acted as a mediator in disputes between members and employers, resolving conflicts through negotiation, HR representation, writing compelling personal statements on members’ behalf, and advising members of applicable policies and how to ensure compliance to achieve favorable outcomes.

  • Strategic Campaign Management & Policy Advocacy. Developed and executed comprehensive member-led information organizing campaigns for the 2017 sales tax renewal and 2023 property tax renewal that resulted in the only tax renewal wins for education funding in the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Area in part by synthesizing complex laws into understandable talking points for union members to lead discussions within their circle of influence.

  • Data Management. Oversaw membership databases and tracked campaign metrics to assess progress, identify areas for improvement, and report on key performance indicators.
